Spending lots of time together as a family? It may be a great time to create (or revisit) your Family Charter.
Just like your child creates a charter at school about norms in their classroom community, a family charter provides emotional norms a family wants at home. The family charter is a living document created by ALL family members. Creating a family charter with your children communicates that all feelings are OK, that everyone deserves to be heard and understood, and that it is your joint responsibility to work together toward feeling safe and secure in your home.
Three questions will guide the charter: 1) How do we want to feel in our family? 2) What can we each do in order to have these feelings more often? & 3) How will we handle uncomfortable feelings and/or conflicts when they arise?
